Photoshoot Attire - What to Wear to a Photoshoot
The clothes you bring with you to a photoshoot are what I will photograph you in. It is therefore worth putting a bit of thought and effort into your wardrobe as it can make the difference between a run of the mill photo and something spectacular.
Sparkles and sequins always look great.
What to bring to your experience
I suggest bringing five or six outfits, so we can capture different moods and styles. You might begin in jeans and a vest top and finish in a cocktail or evening dress. It is entirely up to you.
Not everyone wears jeans or cocktail dresses, so think about the look you would love and choose clothes that suit it. If you want something sensual, is that a simple vest and briefs, or stockings and suspenders?
You can go shopping, use what you already own, borrow from your girlfriends or hire something special. The more love you put into choosing your outfits, the more beautiful your portraits will be. A few places to look: Asos, Edressit, House of Fraser, Dream Wardrobe, Girl Meets Dress, Hire the Catwalk and Having a Ball Dress Hire.
With that in mind, here is what I recommend bringing:
Something light. Soft blush, grey, nude, cream or white. Light colours feel fresh, bright and ethereal, and give a completely different mood.
Something dark. Black, chocolate, charcoal or rich jewel tones feel elegant and powerful.
Something classic. One or two timeless, chic outfits, whether that feels businesslike, relaxed or quietly ladylike.
Something sensual. A backless gown or beautiful lingerie. Even a jumper feels sensual worn off the shoulder, and a slip dress nods to lingerie while still feeling dressed up.
Something epic. This is your moment to dress like a movie star, and the perfect excuse to go shopping. Rent, borrow or have your dream outfit made. Give yourself permission to go all out.
Metallics and embellishment. Metallic fabrics, sequins or beadwork in silver, gunmetal, bronze, gold or rose gold. What feels very dressy in person reads as a subtle shimmer in your portraits. Draped, lustrous satin in any colour is a sophisticated alternative.
Barely there. Nude and blush tones let the clothes melt away, so your portrait is all about you, not the wardrobe. A cosy jumper, a slinky slip, a gown or a full tulle skirt all give a soft, feminine mood.
Skip busy prints and patterns. They pull the eye away from you.
Choose fitted pieces. They flatter far more than anything loose or boxy.
Leave the plain white shirt at home. It can look flat and stark.
Think about accessories. Hats, scarves and jewellery all add personality.
Remember the right underwear. Bring what each outfit needs, whether a nude bra, a black bra or a strapless one.
